P! is for Proctor

Have you ever wondered what a P! Company Sitcom would be like? Neither have I.

But now that you mention it- that would be pretty awesome. A 20 minute situational comedy- starring us, The P! Company. Oddly enough that’s sort of what our performance for Friday’s psuedo-variety show “Proctor” (8pm; ColdTowne Theater) will be like.

Well, not exactly. I mean- I suppose it is a sitcom so if you consider “Andy and myself being on stage” as a situation (situational) and you “laugh” (a response generally associated with comedy).

Maybe it’s closer to stand-up. But now that you mention it, stand-up comedy traditionally has one person on stage, and the P! Company usually has two or more on stage at any given time. What is it when two people are on stage- exchange… dialogue, so if dialogue is the essence of drama- that means maybe the show is like a play.

But traditional play structure observes the 4th wall (an imaginary divider that safely separates the audience and the action of the stage). P! Company usually talks directly to an audience. Maybe that’s like commercials.

Commercials directly sell an idea, product, or event to an audience member/potential customer, but then again our show doesn’t promote anything specific.

However, now that you mention it, this blog entry is a lot like a commercial. Go see “Proctor” Friday night, 8pm at ColdTowne Theater.

P.S. The P! Company’s official stance on comedy is that it is funny. We whole hardily promote the idea of laughter.

Nick Ramirez, funniest person in World.

Local P! Companaut, Nick Ramirez recently made with the yuck yuck’s and the ha ha’s in the Semifinals for Austin’s Funniest Person competition. You can view Nick’s semifinal performance here.

We feel Nick is hilarious. I’d go so far as to say, Nick Ramirez is not the “Funniest in Austin,” but rather he is the funniest person in the World.

While not advancing to the finals of Funniest Person, we (the P! Company) feel it prudent to reward his efforts with the first annual “P! Company’s Funniest Person in the World (in Austin [in the P! Company {in the category of stand-up comedy} ] ) award.

We can award success in three ways: 1) a hearty pat on the back, 2) a generic “attaboy,” and 3) a trophy (as from our little league youth). Now the P! Company doesn’t have any sort of inflated budget to be purchasing frivolous awards for every Tom, Dick, and Harry. The problem with a real trophy is that it will no doubt collect dust in people’s closets, but with the aid of computerolgoy we have created something perfect, a “virtual” trophy [see left].

This trophy will never collect dust or decompose. It will never bend or break. It also has the luxury of never having existed- so it will never grow old. It is an immortal sign of our appreciation to one, Nicholas “Garfield The Cat” Ramirez.

To Wong Foo Nick, Thanks for everything Julie Newmar The P! Company!
