Time for something a little different…
For this week’s update, we are trying something a little different. Using our vast resources here at The P! Company HQ in Vancouver, Canada, we were able to find two little treasures amidst all the terrible backlog of VHS-C tapes in our library. We found two tapes of particular note.
The first was from the work of Pete Starswick, a current staff editor here at the P! Company and one-time Hollywood freelance editor. Under the direction of James Cameron (Aliens, T2, Titanic) Mr. Starswick crafted the original cut of “Pleasantvilleâ€. After two weeks on the project the film was shelved due to studio meddling and an excessive budget. This work took place three years before Gary Ross began his version of “Pleasantvilleâ€- which was ironically with the same cast as Cameron’s- including Tobey Maguire, Reese Witherspoon, and Don Knotts.
The second video consists of a long lost episode from Star Trek: The Next Generation. The print was thought to have been burned in a fire at the Paramount Studios, but has since been recovered in our Library. The ill-informed Nigel Winthorpe (aka Shawn Stingray) served as brief producer and the main star of the hit show “Starship Kid†during the mid-nineties for the P! Company. He donated this tape to our library in exchange for paying one month’s rent on his beachside condo in California. I have to tell you it was worth every penny.
Enjoy.
