YouTube more like PoopTube
For whatever reason, we, the P! Company, were targeted for using copyrighted material in one of our video sketches on YouTube. That video was “The Orphanage” starring the ever funny Chris Trew. We used Paul Simon’s “Kodachrome” for the rampant fun montage of Tommy and Chris enjoying the fruits of their new relationship as Father and Adopted Son. It was a great song choice for the montage.
YouTube, acting well within it’s rights, recently striped the audio track from the original. The statement attached to the video said, “Your video, The Orphanage, may have audio content from Kodachrome by Paul Simon that is owned or licensed by WMG. As a result, your video has been muted.”
It’s strange we got hit considering how many full television shows and other blatantly copyrighted materials appear within every other search on YouTube. But I suppose the WMG group has a firmer hold to specify that their material isn’t used inappropriately.
I titled this post “YouTube more like PoopTube,” I mean no offense- it was merely a clever way to title this particular video re-release post. In any case, we’ve replaced the track with a new song from a local group that I feel keeps the spirit of “Kodachrome.” Enjoy.
